American Airlines Flight Forced to Return After Problems

May 10, 2006

By Jasmine Kripalani, The Miami Herald

May 10–An American Airlines flight headed to New York City was forced to return to Miami International Airport this morning because of “possible electrical problems,” said Greg Chin, spokesman for Miami International Airport.

About 127 passengers were on board the flight number 2052 headed for New York City’s LaGuardia International Airport at 8:24 a.m.

The plane landed safely at 9:10 a.m. and no injuries were reported, he said.

“Usually an indicator light alerts the pilot that there may be an electrical problem,” Chin said.

He added that the plane was in the air for several minutes before the pilot decided to return to Miami.

“[Passengers] may reboard that plane,” Chin said, adding that mechanics would check the plane’s electrical equipment.
