ENGLEWOOD, Colo., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- When charter airline Miami Air International recently implemented Jeppesen's Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution, Jeppesen became the first and only EFB software provider with its solution in operation across Class 1, 2 and 3 EFB hardware platforms. The implementation signals a significant achievement for Jeppesen as it continues to lead the industry with its electronic suite of applications and data. Jeppesen is the only company that can support an operator with a complete portfolio of navigation services, both paper- and electronic- based, that cover the globe, and best practice expertise that guides an airline through the digital transformation at its own pace.
The installation of the system in the Boeing 737 cockpit is a key component of Miami Air International's commitment to feature the most advanced and sophisticated onboard systems on its airplanes. "The EFB system is cutting edge technology that will give our pilots the ability to connect their aircraft to the flow of digital information that defines today's aviation operations," said VP Flight Operations, Kurt Kamrad. "With the help of Jeppesen's EFB, Miami Air hopes to create a truly paperless cockpit in the very near future, resulting in a reduced workload in the cockpit and back in the office, while enhancing safety and reducing costs at the same time."
As a result of working agreements with both Boeing and Airbus, Jeppesen can deploy the EFB solution in a mixed-fleet environment, and across Class 1, 2 or 3 platforms. Jeppesen has also formed multiple hardware and integrator relationships to serve customers who have selected retrofit solutions and plan to implement EFB without airframe OEM assistance, as is the case with Miami Air International. Jeppesen is the only company able to maintain EFB data and software continuity across diverse fleets of new and existing aircraft and across varying hardware devices.
Jeppesen's EFB system is currently in revenue service with five other airlines around the world: KLM, Malaysia Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, EVA Air, and Air New Zealand. Additional airlines are completing contracts with Jeppesen to launch the EFB software on the ground and in the air during 2006. 2006 plans also include agreements with both Boeing and Airbus to include the software as an option on new airframes.
Miami Air International is also currently installing Jeppesen's OPSControl system. The charter airline has purchased Jeppesen's airport/obstacle data and is a current user of Jeppesen's crew scheduling software. Jeppesen is the only company able to offer its customers a Total Mission Solution, including EFB, airline operations services, and full chart and document logistics management. More than just tools and technology, Jeppesen has the experience and resources to ensure success. Only Jeppesen brings all of this together and delivers real world solutions from a single, trusted source.
