AMERICOM GOVERNMENT SERVICES, Inc. (AGS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SES AMERICOM, announced today it is partnering with prime contractor Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) to support the FTI Satellite (FTI-SAT) program on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration. AGS will be providing Ku-band and C-band connectivity under a multi-year contract to the FTI-SAT program, combined with redundant teleport facilities.
Satellite equipment replaced through the FTI-SAT program will support critical radar, weather and cockpit to air traffic controller communications. The program provides for reliable and redundant voice and data communications between planes and air traffic control systems, and enables safe "hand offs" from one traffic controller to another. By protecting the reliability of ground to plane communications the FTI-SAT program will help ensure the safety of air traffic throughout the United States. AGS will be supporting the program with the AMC-9 and AMC-6 spacecrafts.
"We knew we needed the right partner for the FTI-SAT portion of the total FTI program, and AGS was the subcontractor we wanted to work with due to their long history of service to the government customer," said John O'Sullivan, FTI program vice president for Harris Government Communications Systems Division. "Together we will be supplying the FAA with the tools needed to fulfill their mission of protecting the flying public by allowing for a safe and efficient network."
"Government agencies continue to require increasing levels of satellite services to meet their requirements, whether they are civilian or defense-related programs," said David Helfgott, President and CEO of AGS. "AGS is a trusted satellite communications services partner to leading commercial contractors like Harris Corp., with a proven track record and the ability to provide satellite bandwidth globally, teleport and terrestrial infrastructure, and engineering and integration services vital for complete network solutions."
