May 23--Norfolk Iron & Metal Co. of Greeley received the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program award Monday from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
There are only 29 companies in Colorado and about 800 companies in the U.S. that have achieved the award, said Greg Gress, safety consultant with Colorado State University's OSHA Consultation Program, which nominated Norfolk for the award.
Norfolk's SHARP award presentation was conducted Monday during an employee appreciation meeting.
Norfolk's Greeley location provides carbon and alloy steel products for construction projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The company averages 80 employees and offers a wide range of processing services such as cut-to-length, cutting and sawing, leveling, bending and shearing of metal products.
The Greeley location is a subsidiary of Norfolk Iron & Metal Co. in Norfolk, Neb.
For this accomplishment and recognition, Norfolk will be removed from OSHA's Programmed Inspection list from March 2006 through March 2007. This exemption recognizes that an effective safety and health program is in place and that their occupational injuries and illnesses are below the national levels.
Agland Inc. of Eaton earned a similar award about a year ago.
