May 23--Mary Padilla of Greeley is still looking for her car, stolen on Wednesday from in front of the Goodwill store downtown.
Her white 1993 Plymouth Ciera was parked in front of the store while she and a couple of friends went in to shop. They returned to find it missing.
Padilla said she kept a second set of keys in the console of the car but had locked the doors when she left.
"The windows were cracked down about an inch," Padilla said. "I know I locked the doors."
Padilla said someone offered to donate a car, but because the vehicle was too much for her to handle, she couldn't accept it.
"It was so nice of them," she said. "But, honey, it's too long. It's too big for me to drive."
Padilla is the regular driver for some seniors who live in her senior housing apartment. She takes them to the grocery store, to pick up medication or to doctor appointments. She and her two friends had just finished grocery shopping at Wal-Mart when the vehicle was stolen. All their groceries were taken as well as the last $20 she put in for gas for the month.
She uses a cane to help her walk. She is diabetic and goes to the doctor a couple of times a week. In the trunk of the car was her Bible and a two-wheeled cart she used to haul groceries.
Padilla doesn't want anyone to think she's picky about getting a donated car: "I don't want anything fancy. Just something I can drive to get around. I can't afford a payment and I know I can't afford full coverage. I live on a fixed income as it is."
