Four Artists 'Converge' for One Exhibit

Jun. 1--The Neighbors Ticket: A Few Things To Do This Week
Four artists used inspiration from each other to create Convergence, on display at Artformz Alternative in the Design District.
The exhibit features the wood constructions of Alejandro Mendoza; acrylic and mixed medias on paper by Rebecca Newell; a video projection, sculpture and work on paper by Alette Simmons-Jimenez; and paintings by German Perez. The artists hail from Cuba, Oregon and New York.
Artformz is at 130 NE 40th St. Convergence is on display through June 10.

BOAT SHOW IS
AT CONVENTION CENTER
Beat the traffic on I-95 and buy a boat . . . or just look at a few at the South Florida Boat Show this weekend at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
The 13th annual event features hundreds of boats, including walk-arounds, inflatables and cuddy cabins by Bayliner, Concept and Sea Vee. Kids can get a lesson in fishing from Capt. Don Dingman of the kids' TV show Hook the Future.
The boat show takes place 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 4 to 9 p.m. Monday. Tickets are $8, $4 children.

SHARE A LAUGH AND
CELEBRATE DAIRY MONTH
Fill your daily laugh and dairy quota as Laughing Gas celebrates National Dairy Month at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main St., in Miami Lakes.
The improv comedy troupe uses music and sketches to act out scenes based on audience suggestions. This weekend's theme is "Double Government Cheese" and features political and other themes, including "Holy Cow" and "Make My Milk a Double."

EXHIBIT EXPLORES
URBAN LIFE ISSUES
Issues of contemporary urban life are explored in metro pictures, part two on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami.
The exhibit features paintings, video art and installations by artists, including Henry Taylor, Susan Lee-Chun, Koto Ewanza and Kianga Ford.
The exhibition is curated by Silvia Karman Cubina, director of Moore Space in the Design District. metro pictures, part one is on view.
MOCA is at 770 NE 125th St., and Moore Space is at 4040 NE Second Ave.

ENJOY BLUEGRASS
PERFORMANCES SUNDAY
Relax in the South Florida sun and enjoy a Bluegrass Show and Jam Sunday afternoon at the Ives Estates Optimists' Park.
Practice your acoustic skills in the Pick 'n Parlor, or enjoy performances by The New River Boys, Southern Shores and Corn Kuntry. The monthly event is sponsored by the South Florida Bluegrass Association.

PLAY READING IS
ON MONDAY AT CHURCH
A teacher gains control of a student through his superior use of language in Eugene Ionesco's The Lesson, being read at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's Church.
The play reading, part of a series by the Fantasy Theater Factory, also includes a reading of Ionesco's The Bald Soprano, which consists of a dialogue between two couples. Don't forget to pack a picnic to sit back and relax for the outside theater performance.
