Summer is Open Book for Kids in Library Club

Jun. 1–”Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales!” is the theme of the Sacramento Public Library’s 2006 Kids’ Summer Reading Club.

Children can join the club from June 12-Aug. 12 at their library branch.

The club will present animal-themed programs featuring storytellers, magicians, puppeteers, clowns, animals experts and other performers from around the region.

When children sign up, they will receive a reading folder to track their reading achievements throughout the summer, a special door hanger and a bookmark with a list of their library branch’s summer reading club programs.

After logging 20 hours or 40 books of summer reading time, participants will receive a book and book bag.

Scheduled programs include:

Courtland Library, 170 Primasing Ave., Courtland:

— 3 p.m. Thursday: “Charlotte’s Web” with Cuz’n Philburt and Wilburt the potbellied pig.

— 10 a.m. July 19: “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales!” with singer and guitarist Anna Moo.

Elk Grove Library, 8962 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove:

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. June 14: “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales!” with library staff.

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. June 21: “African-Caribbean Dance and Drumming” with Fenix Drum & Dance Company.

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. June 28: “It’s a Reptile Party” with the Reptile People.

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. July 5: “Amazing Animal Trivia.”

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. July 12: “Jonathon the Magician and his Magic Birds” with Jonathon Lopez.

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. July 19: “Peter and the Wolf” with the Fratello Marionettes.

— 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9: “Animals From Around the World” with Julie Allen of Nature’s Critters.

— 3 p.m. July 13: “The Amazing Bubble Show” with Rebecca Nile, the Bubble Lady.
