Jun. 2--SACRAMENTO -- Concrete pipe 5 feet in diameter rolled around southbound Highway 99 at Florin Road, closing the roadway for almost an hour Thursday morning, authorities said.
A big rig carrying the concrete piping was entering the freeway from westbound Florin Road about 6:50 a.m. when one of the chains holding the pipes on the flatbed broke, California Highway Patrol Officer Jasper Begay said.
One pipe fell off the back, freeing the others to roll onto Highway 99. A driver of a second big rig, southbound on Highway 99, was unable to avoid the rolling cylinders, hitting one. The 21-year-old male driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Begay said.
By 8:10 a.m. all lanes of Highway 99 were reopened, Begay said.
