Jun. 3--TOKYO -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. will build Japan's most powerful solar energy generation facility in Omura, Nagasaki Prefecture, for research purposes, company officials said Saturday.
Mitsubishi Heavy and Nagasaki Prefecture will jointly apply for approval for the 7,000-kilowatt solar generation facility project from the governmental New Energy and Industry Technology Development Organization, the officials said.
If approved, the facility would start operations as early as fiscal 2007, which begins next April, they said.
Mitsubishi Heavy will rent part of a former power plant site of Kyushu Electric Power Co. in Omura for the project, they said.
