Fort/Worth?: Forget 6/6/06: This is a Bad Sign

Jun. 7–Rival cities Dallas and Fort Worth have grown closer — but not for long.

A sign recently installed above northbound Interstate 35W at the Texas 121 exit correctly points motorists toward Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, but the slash is in the wrong place.

It reads “DF/W Airport.”

“I guess our grammar is a little off,” said Michael Peters, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Transportation.

The sign, which cost $6,600, will be fixed with an inexpensive patch before the end of the week, he said.

It features a new large font that’s supposed to be easier for drivers to read — though no one reported the gaffe until Tuesday, when the Star-Telegram called.

About 143,000 people travel I-35W near downtown Fort Worth each day, records show.

Biggest typo in Texas history? Nah, but still /Worth fixing.
