Unisys AirCore Solution to Help Hahn Air Systems Sell Tickets for More Than 280 Airlines Worldwide

Posted on: Wednesday, 14 June 2006, 09:00 CDT

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that its subsidiary in Germany has signed a contract with Hahn Air Systems GmbH, the IT subsidiary of Hahn Air Lines GmbH, for the implementation of Unisys Airline Core Systems Solutions (AirCore). AirCore will control business-critical processes of the Hahn-Air eTops passenger system for the sale and distribution of airline tickets in more than 50 countries.

With the AirCore solution, airlines can offer their tickets worldwide via various distribution channels and also handle other service activities, such as marketing campaigns or rental car and hotel room bookings. Hahn Air Systems GmbH will be offering the comprehensive AirCore functions as an Application Service Provider (ASP).

"As our eTops passenger system is based on AirCore, we can offer our customers a broad spectrum of IT solutions that covers many core processes of an airline and supports the Web-based distribution of airline tickets," says Hans Nolte, Chief Executive Officer of Hahn Air Lines. "We offer our customers the full range of AirCore functionality for a manageable price with clearly defined services as an ASP application. The flexible use of eTops enables small and medium-sized airlines in particular to react quickly and suitably to changing market situations, in addition to adhering to IATA's mandate of 100 percent paperless airline tickets by 2007."

Hahn Air is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and handles the worldwide sale and distribution of flight tickets for non-BSP-participating airlines. BSP (Billing & Settlement Plan) is the internationally recognized billing system between airlines and travel agencies. Last year, Hahn Air sold tickets for more than 280 airlines in 58 countries. Hahn Air intends to further expand the AirCore-based eTops passenger system because larger airlines will also be able to benefit significantly from their ASP services.

"AirCore provides airlines with comprehensive transparency of the distribution and sale of tickets and allows reservations to be individually matched to the wishes of the customer," says Karlheinz Oberkirch, General Manager of Global Transportation for Unisys Deutschland GmbH, Central Europe. "AirCore not only improves customer service, but also allows the airlines to reduce costs and increase their independence from cost-intensive distribution channels through direct online sales."

AirCore is a next-generation marketing, sales and service solution suite designed to replace conventional airline reservations, inventory and departure control systems. Unisys AirCore allows airlines to drive productivity and facilitate the move from a transaction-centric to a customer-centric view of the business. AirCore enables airlines to make better real-time, operational decisions because it delivers consolidated information to airline staff about passengers, including customer interests and preferences. Regardless of their specific business models, airlines need solutions for secure business operations.

AirCore is built on Unisys 3D-Visible Enterprise methodology, which aligns a company's vision and business operations with the information technology systems that support them. The solution is open, Web-based and platform-independent and can be seamlessly integrated in existing IT infrastructures.
