Cooper City Trash-Removal Rates to Increase
By Nikki Waller, The Miami Herald
Jun. 14–Cooper City residents will see higher bills for trash removal starting in October.
Under a new agreement approved by the City Commission Tuesday night, residents will pay about $29 per month for trash removal service, a $9 increase over their current bills.
But with the price hike, service will change.
Under the current agreement, residents pay roughly $20 a month and can put out as many as five rolling carts per week, with bulk pickup scheduled every other month. Under the renewed agreement, Waste Management will collect up to two rolling carts per home per week and will schedule monthly bulk pickup.
Residents who want a third cart will have to pay $50 for the cart and $7 extra per month.
Waste Management, the city’s trash hauler, claims fuel and labor costs have driven up the price of garbage removal, but the agreed-upon cost for residents is significantly lower than the number originally proposed by the company.
