Jun. 14--Dignitaries including National Parks Service Regional Director Jon Jarvis will be on hand Thursday to formally dedicate Mission San Miguel as a national historic landmark.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. outside the mission, 775 Mission St. in San Miguel. Retired Judge William Clark, who served as Secretary of the Interior under President Ronald Reagan, is also expected to be on hand.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation last month listed the 208-year-old church among its 11 most endangered historic sites. The honor comes as mission backers have struggled to repair damage the structure sustained during the 2003 San Simeon Earthquake.
