Man Found Dead With Head Injury: Tulsa Police Are Treating the Death As a Possible Homicide.

Jun. 15--Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man found inside his home Wednesday night with a head injury.

Officers were called about 7:30 p.m. to a house in the 4600 block of North Hartford Avenue after the fiancee of the victim, Alonzo Tibbs Jr., 68, found him lying next to a bedroom window, police said.

Police noticed that the window's screen had been pushed out and was in the grass outside, Cpl. Brian Blair said.

Tibbs could have knocked the screen out of the window when he fell after suffering a natural death, or it could have been removed by an escaping killer, Blair said.

Cpl. Gene Watkins said, "We're going to work it like a homicide."

Detectives were examining blood patterns in the house and will await a ruling from the state medical examiner on the cause of death, Watkins said.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood looking for people who may have seen anything, but Blair said that proved fruitless.

The home did not look ransacked, Blair said.

The victim's son Larry Tibbs said Wednesday night that he had last spoken with his father Tuesday about Father's Day. He said he believed that his father was murdered.

"I was teasing him about Father's Day, and I wasn't going to get him nothing this year," Tibbs said. "Just teasing him. Boy, I feel bad. I feel bad. Sometimes, it ain't good to joke."

Larry Tibbs is one of 11 children, he said.

Alonzo Tibbs was a retired American Airlines employee and was recovering from knee surgery.

"He was willing to do anything for anybody," said his niece, Mayola Wade.
