WhiteWave Foods Company Works With Community Food Share to Make a Difference; Company Donates $28,000 to CFS Corporate Challenge Food Drive

Posted on: Monday, 19 June 2006, 12:00 CDT

Community Food Share (CFS) and WhiteWave Foods Company announced today that the annual CFS Corporate Challenge Food Drive raised more than $90,000 in donations. Through employee donations, a vendor match from one of the company's consultants Main Street, and a corporate match program, WhiteWave alone donated more than $28,000 to the drive, earning the company first place in overall donations in the Corporate Challenge.

"This year's food drive was an enormous success. Thanks to WhiteWave Foods and other area companies, Community Food Share raised a total of $91,348 and collected more than 8,100 pounds of nutritious food," said Jim Baldwin, Community Food Share Executive Director. "The generosity of these local companies means we will be able to distribute the equivalent of 370,000 nutritious meals to individuals and families in need right here in Boulder and Broomfield Counties."

Community Food Share (CFS) has been an important resource in the Boulder and Broomfield communities, helping local families in need for 25 years. Both Silk and Horizon Organic have a long-standing history of involvement with Community Food Share. In addition to actively participating in the annual CFS Corporate Challenge, WhiteWave Foods has been the title sponsor of CFS SpringFest, the organization's annual dinner and fundraiser, for the past two years and will continue that partnership in 2007.

"As part of our dedication to responsible livelihood, our goal is always to conduct business in a way that sustains and improves the environment and communities in which we live and work," said Mike Keown, Senior Vice President Marketing for WhiteWave Foods and a member of the Community Food Share Board of Directors. "As a company that manufactures delicious and nutritious foods, we believe it is our obligation to help fulfill the most basic of human needs. Working with Community Food Share allows us to make a difference in our own backyard."

The CFS Corporate Challenge served as the inaugural event for the WhiteWave Foods company-wide volunteer program, Values in Action (VIA), which was developed to make it easy and rewarding for employees to get involved with worthwhile activities in the community. The involvement with Community Food Share, as well as the Values in Action program, are all part of the company's dedication to sustainable business practices. That commitment is also reflected in the company's environmentally responsible office furniture and workstations, extensive recycling program, and dedication to wind energy. In 2005, Silk and Horizon Organic won the EPA Green Power Leadership Award for their commitment to, and ongoing promotion of, renewable energy. In addition, WhiteWave has been named to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) list of Top 25 Green Power Partners every quarter since the list first began in 2004.
