Jun. 19--HIROSHIMA -- Chugoku Electric Power Co. and Hiroshima Gas Co. reached an agreement Monday to supply each other liquefied natural gas at a time of need and collaborate on technological development.
The accord is aimed at averting an LNG shortage at either of the two partners and having the gas firm assist in the trials to be conducted by the Hiroshima-based electrical utility on a new system designed to promote the use of natural gas in wider areas.
The arrangements will provide solutions to problems that might occur due to LNG delivery and other supply failures.
The technological development project Chugoku Electric has undertaken is sponsored by the government-affiliated New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization to give smaller firms in regional cities and gas firms ready access to eco-friendly natural gas.
Chugoku Electric officials have expressed hope that it can enlist the cooperation of more gas companies in nearby areas in the future.
