TV Helicopter Rescues Woman, 17-Year-Old Boy From Stuck River

Jun. 27--A Seattle TV station's helicopter rescued a woman and a boy stranded Monday afternoon in the Stuck River in Sumner, a City of Sumner spokeswoman said.
The 65-year-old woman and 17-year-old youth were plucked from some rocks and a sandbar just south of Stewart Road Southwest and Eighth Street East by the KING-5 helicopter, spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said.
The two were not hurt, she said.
The incident began when the woman lost control of her raft and ended up on some rocks, Palmer said. The boy tried to use a rope swing to get to her, but landed on a sandbar.
Officials responded after someone near the river called police about 2:50 p.m., she said.
The news helicopter was in the area to report on the incident and picked the two up. Sumner firefighters, Pierce County sheriff's deputies and special operations team officials from the Puyallup Fire Department also responded, Palmer said.
