AirTran Airways Reports Record June, Quarter Traffic

ORLANDO, Fla., July 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. , today reported record traffic for both the month of June and the second quarter 2006. The airline reported its revenue passenger miles (RPMs), available seat miles (ASMs), and enplaned passengers represent all-time records for the month of June and for the second quarter 2006. Load factor, percentage of seats filled, represents a record for June at 79.8 percent, and an all-time record for the second quarter 2006 at 78.1 percent, up 2.4 percentage points versus the second quarter last year.

"AirTran Airways is pleased to again report new monthly and quarterly records for traffic, passengers and load factor, particularly with more than 25 percent growth in capacity for the month of June and 23 percent for the quarter, while both periods had strong average fare gains," said Bob Fornaro, AirTran Airways' president and chief operating officer.

AirTran Airways' traffic, measured by revenue passenger miles (RPMs), grew by 25.6 percent to more than 1.2 billion RPMs, on an increase of 25.4 percent in capacity, based on available seat miles (ASMs). The airline enplaned 1,865,766 passengers in the month of June, which is a 22.5 percent increase over June 2005 and an all-time record.

The airline had a record breaking quarter in the second quarter of 2006. Traffic grew by 27.3 percent to more than 3.7 billion RPMs, on an increase of 23.3 percent in capacity. Load factor for the second quarter was 78.1 percent, and the airline enplaned a record 5,409,351 customers, up 25.9 percent over second quarter 2005.

Year-to-date 2006 traffic grew 26.2 percent on a capacity increase of 23.8 percent, while load factor was 74.6 percent. The airline has enplaned a record number of passengers with 9,896,836 boardings year-to-date.
