Tokyo’s Haneda Airport Suspends Flights

TOKYO – Tokyo’s Haneda airport suspended flights for two hours early Saturday after an unidentified jogger was spotted crossing the runway.

The shutdown forced delays in 70 flights at one of the country’s busiest airports, Kyodo News agency reported.

The man was spotted by infrared sensor at around 4 a.m., and all incoming and outgoing flights were grounded while authorities tracked him down.

The man turned out to be a 22-year-old part-time employee of a company that cleans airplanes and is under contract with All Nippon Airways, Kyodo said. The man said he was not used to airports and that he just wanted to go for a jog by the sea, the report said.

Officials at Haneda, whose official name is Tokyo International Airport, were unavailable for immediate comment Saturday.
