California Transportation Commission Allocates $380 Million in New Transportation Funding

The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has approved $380 million in new transportation funding for 134 projects throughout the state.

This is the first funding allocation for the 2006-07 fiscal year and continues an impressive upward trend from the previous fiscal year when a record $4.2 billion was allocated for over 1,200 transportation projects.

Highlights of the CTC's funding allocations include:

Los Angeles - $26.5 million was allocated to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to purchase 50 light rail vehicles for system-wide usage, including the Pasadena Gold Line and the Metro Eastside Extension.

Bay Area - $20 million was allocated to mass transit in the Bay Area. This includes $11 million to extend Bay Area Rapid Transit in Santa Clara County from Fremont to downtown San Jose and $9 million to extend San Francisco Muni's Third Street Light Rail line to Chinatown.

San Bernardino - $27.7 million was allocated for a collision severity reduction project that will improve safety on 100 miles of Interstate 15 between the California/Nevada state line and the town of Yermo.

San Diego - $3.4 million was allocated for a project that will construct five miles of a new six-lane freeway (State Route 56), which will provide a direct connection between Interstate 5 and Interstate 15.
