ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. , today announced that it has signed on as the official airline of America's 400th Anniversary, an 18-month series of national events commemorating the 1607 founding of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. The commemoration focuses on Jamestown's contributions to our great nation, including representative government, free enterprise and a multi-cultural society.
"We are honored to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways vice president of marketing and sales. "America's 400th Anniversary represents an important milestone for Americans to reflect upon our shared experiences and common goals. The struggles and successes at Jamestown provide lessons for the entire nation."
"We are very excited to have AirTran Airways aboard as a sponsor," said Jeanne Zeidler, executive director of Jamestown 2007. "As a forward-thinking leader in the airline industry, AirTran understands the determination and perseverance so integral to the story of the nation's first days. They also share the belief that there's never been a better time to honor America's origins."
The sponsorship will support the commemoration in a variety of ways, including helping to fund a series of educational and cultural events that began in May 2006 and continue into 2008. In addition, AirTran Airways' promotional programs will extend the message of the commemoration to the airline's millions of passengers.
