GM to Build Economy Car Factory in India

General Motors Corp. says it will open a second factory in India, a $279.3 million facility in the western part of the subcontinent.
The plant, a joint venture with the Maharashtra state government, will be used to build a small passenger car, most likely the Chevrolet Spark, the Wall Street Journal said Friday.
Production is set to begin next year and could soon thereafter reach 140,000 vehicles per year.
The Maharashtra factory will enable GM to compete in India's economy car market, where Suzuki Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. are gaining market share.
