Northwest Flight Attendants Conduct CHAOS(TM) Activities

August 4, 2006

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ — From Friday, August 4 through Monday, August 7, Northwest flight attendants across the country will gather to gear up for CHAOS. These informational events will provide an opportunity for flight attendants to ask questions about CHAOS and learn more about the details involved in the campaign. They will also alert the traveling public of what is to come.

On Monday, July 31, Northwest flight attendants rejected a second tentative agreement with the company. Shortly after, the company implemented imposed work rules, triggering the flight attendants’ right to strike under the Railway Labor Act which governs labor-management relations in the aviation industry. AFA-CWA has served the company 15-days notice that CHAOS could strike as early as 9:01 pm CDT on August 15.

CHAOS, or Create Havoc Around Our System(TM), is AFA-CWA’s trademarked strategy of targeted work actions using random, unannounced strikes.

“Our members have spoken: these drastic cuts to our pay, benefits and work rules are simply unacceptable,” said Mollie Reiley, Interim Master Executive Council President. “Our members refuse to watch more than 40 percent of our wages and benefits get funneled into company profits and executive bonuses. It is simply not necessary and will not be tolerated.”
