Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ:CMTL) announced today that its Maryland-based subsidiary, Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation, received orders totaling $6.3 million on its Movement Tracking System, or MTS contract, with the U.S. Army. The orders are for the Army National Guard's acquisition of MTS equipment, satellite network capacity and technical services. Total orders received to date against the $418.2 million U.S. Army logistics contract, including these National Guard orders, increased to $317.3 million.
The orders from the Army National Guard were funded and issued pursuant to the recently enacted supplemental Army National Guard and Army Reserve Equipment Plan. To date, orders to Comtech from this supplement total $53.9 million.
The orders are for the supply of satellite network capacity, installation kits, system installation services and technical training. These orders complement previous Army National Guard orders for Comtech's next generation Model MT-2012 mobile satellite transceivers, which feature embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and secure Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities. Comtech's Model MT-2012 Transceiver features Savi Technology's ISO-compliant EchoPoint RFID Reader, which Savi also has deployed in the U.S. Department of Defense's In-Transit Visibility (ITV) network.
Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said, "These orders demonstrate the importance of Comtech's satellite network and technical support services in providing turn-key satellite tracking and communication systems to the Army National Guard. This critical communications capability will enable the Guard to better prepare for and react to disaster and recovery operations at the local, state and national levels. These new orders are ongoing evidence of the vital roles our communication and network technologies play in providing communications capabilities when conventional telecommunications systems are unavailable or ineffective."
