AirTran Airways Advises Passengers of Increased Security Checkpoint Measures From TSA

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., , is advising passengers of increased security measures at all U.S. airport security checkpoints regarding liquids in carry-on baggage and advising passengers to arrive early for flights at all airports.
The Department of Homeland Security has raised the threat level to Orange for all commercial aviation in the United States. In response, AirTran Airways is working closely with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and airport officials to ensure the safety and security of our passengers and crew members. Effective immediately, all liquid and gel items -- including drinks, perfume, shampoo, contact lens solutions, etc., are not permitted in carry-on baggage through screening checkpoints or onto any aircraft; however, these items are allowed in checked baggage. Exceptions to this ban are baby formula and prescription medications (in passenger's name on label), but passengers will need to present these items for inspection at security checkpoints. For a listing of banned items, go to http://www.tsa.gov/.
AirTran Airways is also advising passengers traveling today to allow extra time for the check-in process at all airports. Security lines will be longer than usual due to these increased measures.
Flights are operating normally and passengers can check their flight status online at http://www.airtran.com/ on the home page under "Flight Status."
