Sun Country Airlines Announces Service to the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport (PIE)

Posted on: Friday, 11 August 2006, 09:00 CDT

Sun Country Airlines announced today that it will begin service to the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport (PIE) with daily flights beginning Monday, November 20th, 2006.

"We're enthusiastic about beginning service to the bay area through the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport," said Jim Olsen, COO of Sun Country. "The airport offers the opportunity for growth as well as convenience for our passengers."

The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport (PIE) is located across the bay from Tampa and approximately 9 miles from the Tampa International Airport. Known as the birthplace of commercial aviation, the airport was home to the first fare-paying passenger in history.

"We are truly excited that Sun Country Airlines chose the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport as their 'Gateway to Tampa Bay'," said Noah Lagos, Airport Director of St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport.

The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Airport will be joining Sun Country in a cooperative advertising effort to familiarize the traveling public with the airport as a convenient alternative to access attractions in and around the St. Petersburg/Tampa/Clearwater area.

Sun Country Airlines is a low cost, low fare carrier based in St. Paul, MN and was ranked #3 on the list of domestic airlines in Travel+Leisure's 2006 World's Best Awards. Sun Country, a privately held company, is following a conservative growth plan which will increase the frequency to its popular destinations such as Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Ft. Myers, Denver, Las Vegas and Washington, D.C. For a complete list of destinations and more information, please visit Sun Country's website at suncountry.com.
