Horizon Air Gives the Green Light to Passenger Carry-Ons

Now that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has refined its new security measures and passengers have become familiar with the restrictions, Horizon Air is once again allowing passengers to bring carry-on baggage aboard its aircraft.

“We’ve been working closely with TSA and airport authorities to streamline the screening process, and folks are coming to the airport better prepared to pass through security,” said Andy Schneider, Horizon Air vice president of customer services. “Security lines are shorter and people are getting through them more quickly than they were yesterday. At this time we see no reason why customers cannot bring carry-ons through security and take advantage of our Ala Cart service, as long as what they bring abides by the new TSA rules.”

Horizon’s Ala Cart service allows passengers to bring carry-on luggage through the security checkpoint and place it on a cart planeside before boarding the aircraft. At their destination, they pick up their bags from another cart by the plane after disembarking, bypassing the baggage check process entirely.

Horizon also urges travelers to check the airport Web site to determine how much earlier to arrive before their flights. The general rule currently is to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure time.

Travelers are advised to check the TSA Web site at www.tsa.gov for the most current information on security restrictions.

Horizon and sister carrier, Alaska Airlines, are waiving change fees or offering ticket refunds for passengers traveling through Aug. 14 who elect to delay or cancel travel. Rescheduled travel must commence on or before Sept. 9, 2006. Refunds will be offered for passengers who do not have new dates for travel. The policy applies to purchased and Mileage Plan award tickets.

Horizon passengers with questions or concerns are advised to check the horizonair.com Web site. They also may call Horizon Reservations at 800-547-9308.

Horizon and Alaska together serve 88 cities through an expansive network throughout Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada and Mexico. For more information, visit the Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines Newsroom at horizonair.com/newsroom.
