US Airways Updates Customers on Operations One Week After New Security Measures

TEMPE, Ariz., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- One week after heightened security measures went into effect, US Airways' operations are back to normal with minimal impact on the airline's customers.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050223/LAW097LOGO) The airline has implemented the following: * Amended rebooking and cancellation policies for customers ticketed between the United States and the United Kingdom (UK) through Sept 1. * Waived excess checked baggage fees altogether between the U.S. and the UK through Sept. 1 and on a discretionary basis domestically. * Increased the amount of bottled water and other beverages for service aboard aircraft. Concurrently, US Airways has observed since August 11: * An average 23 percent increase in checked baggage system-wide. The airline is confident in its baggage system and has increased staffing where necessary. * A steady day-over-day improvement in security-related delays for flights departing the United Kingdom. Flights on Thursday, August 17 saw no delays departing the UK. * Minor impact on domestic flights due to security issues. * System-wide on-time arrivals at 75 percent and completion at 97 percent for the month of August thus far. On-time arrivals have been above 80 percent over the last two days. * Slight yet noticeable reduction in aircraft boarding times at some locations. * US Airways Shuttle wait times back to normal as are wait times at other airports.
