Pacific Gas and Electric Company Applauds Governor for Signing Into Law Senate Bill 1 - a Sweeping Solar Bill

Posted on: Monday, 21 August 2006, 18:00 CDT

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pacific Gas and Electric Company today issued the following statement from CEO Tom King, supporting Governor Schwarzenegger's signing of Senate Bill 1, by state Sen. Kevin Murray, D-Los Angeles:

"We strongly support increasing solar energy resources in California, and we applaud Gov. Schwarzenegger for signing this bill into law. At a time when we are focused on climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we are delighted to see California continuing to take the lead when it comes to clean energy, with a sweeping solar energy bill that will provide our customers and the state with more solar energy.

"SB 1, in concert with the California Solar Initiative adopted early this year by the California Public Utilities Commission, will help PG&E continue to provide a variety of programs and incentives that encourage our customers to take advantage of distributed solar generation. PG&E is committed to the goals of these programs and leads the nation in support of distributed solar generation. No other utility has connected as many solar customers to the grid as PG&E, with more than 12,000 customers using the sun's energy. SB 1 will allow us to continue building on that track record.

"We also look forward to continuing our support for solar energy through various education and community outreach efforts. PG&E offers a Solar Schools Program that provides grants for solar curriculum, projects and even educational solar electric generators to underserved schools. PG&E also provides grants to Habitat for Humanity's solar program.

"PG&E wants to thank the bill's authors for working with us to ensure the legislation would be fair to all utilities and utility customers throughout California."
