Proposals for Renewable Energy Resources Sought By Sierra Pacific Resources' Nevada Utilities

Posted on: Thursday, 7 September 2006, 21:00 CDT

Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE: SRP) announced today that its two Nevada based utility subsidiaries, Nevada Power and Sierra Pacific Power Company, have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for renewable energy resources.

Proposals will be considered for the following types of renewable energy resources: wind, geothermal, biomass and other non-solar resources eligible for portfolio energy credits under the Nevada renewable portfolio standard. Responses to the RFP are due back to the utilities no later than October 23, 2006.

"This is a major step forward in our plan to acquire more renewable generation," said Thomas Fair, renewable energy executive, Sierra Pacific Resources. "Diversifying our energy portfolio with additional renewable energy resources will help us to provide our customers with environmentally sound, low-cost energy."

The request is part of the companies' plan to fulfill the goals of legislation that requires an increasing percentage of the electricity provided by Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Company to come from renewable sources.

Parties interested in submitting a response to the RFP, or those seeking more information related to the RFP or renewable energy laws should go to Sierra Pacific Resources' websites at:
