Verizon Wireless Boosts Network Capacity Across Southern Illinois

CARBONDALE, Ill., Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless announced today it has upgraded more than three-fourths of the company's cell sites across southern Illinois, increasing network capacity at each by up to 40 percent.
The cell site upgrades enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls, send and receive email and text, picture and video messages, and download games and ringtones while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.
"To stay ahead of our southern Illinois customers' demand for wireless service, we will continue to invest in our network," said Mark Crumpton, president-Kansas/Missouri/Southern Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless. "These upgrades mean more customers can call Mom from the library, text friends while at the mall, and accomplish work from the road -- all on the nation's most reliable wireless network."
These network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase coverage and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Illinois and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years -- $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. In 2005, the company invested more than $173 million in its Illinois network.
