Verizon Wireless Business Customers Get Connected With Integrated High-Speed Wireless and Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks

Posted on: Tuesday, 12 September 2006, 09:00 CDT

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. and LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Businesses that need a solution to keep employees connected while on the road can select from a variety of Lenovo's ThinkPad notebooks with integrated wireless technology that use Verizon Wireless' Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network. Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service, which runs on the company's EV-DO network, is a tool that helps businesses gain the competitive advantages of both mobility and speed.

Verizon Wireless and Lenovo introduced the first notebooks with integrated EV-DO technology a year ago. Today, business customers can choose from a selection of ThinkPad notebooks, including the popular R60, T60, X60 and Z61 widescreen models, which provide a perfect balance of performance and portability. For the most demanding mobile users, these models include a more durable system design, coupling the ThinkPad Shock mounted hard drive with its airbag-like Active Protection System and Rescue and Recovery features. Users can capitalize on Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service with Access Connections, a ThinkVantage Technology on ThinkPads to help automatically switch location-specific settings, including IP settings and defining default printers, when changing between wired and wireless network connections.

These ThinkPad notebooks are pre-configured for Verizon Wireless' EV-DO network to deliver a more pervasive and secure Internet connection than traditional Wi-Fi, enabling access in cities and towns from coast-to-coast. BroadbandAccess offers mobile and business professionals an ideal solution for when they are on the go, particularly when they travel in areas where Wi-Fi hot spots are not readily available.

Verizon Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch high-speed wireless broadband services in the United States. BroadbandAccess from Verizon Wireless gives customers high-speed access to e-mail, corporate data and the Internet from their laptop anywhere within the BroadbandAccess coverage area at download speeds averaging 400 to 700 kbps. Customers who travel outside a BroadbandAccess coverage area will seamlessly switch to Verizon Wireless' 1xRTT NationalAccess network to remain connected while on the road.

ThinkPad notebooks with integrated WWAN and EV-DO capabilities will enable IT departments to avoid hardware incompatibility issues, plus they can expect less hardware to troubleshoot and replace -- as no PC card is necessary for connection -- and improved data security for employees who frequently travel.

Customers with BroadbandAccess-enabled ThinkPad notebooks can sign up for Verizon Wireless session pricing or a monthly service plan online, directly from their notebook. Session pricing is offered for $15 per 24-hour session service. Customers interested in monthly service with any monthly Verizon Wireless voice plan can receive unlimited BroadbandAccess for $59.99 monthly access with a two-year customer agreement. For non-voice customers, BroadbandAccess is available for $79.99 monthly access for unlimited Internet browsing, e-mail and intranet access with a one- or two-year customer agreement.
