Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority, Haverford College, RabbitTransit, Green Building Alliance, REI Lead Recipients of Green Power Awards

Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) will hold its seventh annual Green Power Awards on Thursday, September 21, 2006 from 12 noon - 2 pm at The Hilton Inn at Penn, 3600 Sansom Street, in Philadelphia.

Twenty-seven individuals, private industries, government agencies and public interest organizations that are building Pennsylvania's thriving renewable energy market will be honored at the luncheon.

A special award is being given to Department of General Services Secretary James P. Creedon, Governor Ed Rendell and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, for doubling its green electricity purchase to 20 percent from 10 percent, and making Pennsylvania the largest state purchaser of green electricity.

Other individuals and organizations receiving the awards include:

-- Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (Harrisburg), for vital work in drafting the Model Ordinance for Wind Energy Facilities in Pennsylvania.

-- AFC First Financial Corporation (Allentown), for the successful Keystone Home Energy Loan Program

-- Green Building Alliance (Pittsburgh), for leadership in promoting environmental building practices in the Greater Pittsburgh area and across the nation

-- Green Power Purchasers - Large Businesses

-- Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority (Warrington), for purchasing 100 percent wind power

-- Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) (Sumner, WA), for purchasing 20 percent of its national electricity usage from green power. This purchase includes the use of 100 percent Pennsylvania wind energy in REI's new Pittsburgh retail store

-- Kiehl's Since 1851 (New York, NY), for purchasing 100 percent Pennsylvania wind power for its Philadelphia store

-- Green Power Purchasers - Small Businesses

-- Three Sisters Farm (Sandy Lake), for installing a photovoltaic powered irrigation system and solar greenhouse

-- W. D. Wells & Associates, Inc., (West Grove), for purchasing 100 percent wind power

-- Elmwood Park Zoo (Norristown), for purchasing 100 percent wind power

-- Monk's Cafe (Philadelphia), for purchasing 100 percent wind power

-- Green Power Purchasers - State/Local Government)

-- Lower Makefield Township (Bucks County), for purchasing 10 percent wind power

-- Green Power Purchasers - Religious Organization

-- Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, for purchasing 24 percent wind power for Our Lady of Angels Convent in Aston

-- Green Power Purchasers - Educational Institutions

-- Messiah College (Grantham), for purchasing 4.5 percent wind power

-- Episcopal Academy (Merion Station), for purchasing six percent wind power

-- Westtown School (Chester County), for purchasing six percent wind power

-- Haverford College (Haverford), for purchasing 664 MWh of wind power to power five percent of its campus usage and 50 percent of its new gymnasium, Gardner Integrated Athletic Center, a Gold LEED(TM)-certified building

-- The city of York, for switching the city's fleet of vehicles to biodiesel
