Man Tries to Open Flying Plane’s Door
The FBI was holding a man in Washington Wednesday after he was arrested for allegedly trying to open an Airbus 320 aircraft’s rear door mid-flight.
The incident occurred on United Airlines flight 890 from Los Angeles to Washington’s Dulles International Airport about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, The Washington Post reported.
Passengers said shouting broke out at the rear of the packed plane and a man wearing a camouflage jacket and shouting in Portuguese lunged at the rear door, pulling on the handle.
Passenger Stephen Lockwood of Northern Virginia told the Post the man ignored the flight attendant’s demand he stop and angry passengers swarmed the suspect.
They jumped him, Lockwood said. The guy took quite a beating.
An air marshal intervened and arrested and handcuffed the man, the Post said.
An FBI spokeswoman told the newspaper the incident was not terror-related.
