Bay County Chamber of Commerce Applauds FAA Decision to Relocate Panama City - Bay County International Airport

Posted on: Friday, 15 September 2006, 18:00 CDT

Glen McDonald, chairman of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce board of directors, today released the following statement in response to the FAA approval to relocate the Panama City - Bay County International Airport to West Bay:

"The Bay County Chamber applauds the FAA's decision to relocate the Panama City - Bay County airport to West Bay. Not only will we get an airport that meets all federal safety and design standards, but this community will also get an airport that is fully capable of supporting our economic development efforts. This is great news for every person who lives and works in Bay County.

"The FAA has addressed this community's concerns with their detailed analysis. The new airport will be able to meet our long term aviation needs. We now have an opportunity to attract better air service, more competitive airfares and quality jobs.

"Our community will also benefit from the creation of the West Bay Preservation Area and new protections for St. Andrews Bay system. The environmental protections that will result from the West Bay Preservation Area are a tremendous gift for our children and grandchildren.

"Bay County owes a debt of gratitude to both the FAA and our Airport Authority for their hard work on this issue."
