BASSANO, Alta. (CP) - A small bus carrying British military soldiers rolled Friday morning on the Trans-Canada Highway killing one person and injuring at least three more critically.
"As it turned out, it was a British bus, military bus, with 17 passengers and a driver. And of these, one is deceased, three are critical," said Canadian military spokesman Capt. Lou Marselje.
He said he believed the rest of the injured were walking around.
Marselje also said the British were training at Canadian Forces Base Suffield in southeastern Alberta.
Freezing rain was falling at the time of the crash, although it's not known if this was a factor in the accident.
Police say the accident involved just the one vehicle, and it happened near the town of Bassano, about 150 kilometres southeast of Calgary.
Both eastbound and westbound traffic was being rerouted.
