Smiths Aerospace and Singapore Airlines recently signed a long-term Integrated Logistic Management Service (ILM) agreement for the A380 aircraft fleet. The support for this ILM contract will commence when the A380 enters into service with Singapore Airlines. Smiths' facility in Singapore will supply global support and programme management for the project.
"The key is to organize your business model to be as flexible as possible and supply what the customer needs," said Dr. John Ferrie, President of Smiths Aerospace. "Smiths Aerospace is delighted to be the first supplier with a support contract in place for Singapore Airlines, the A380 launch customer. This agreement allows the airline to focus on delivering services to their customer."
The ILM agreement provides comprehensive rate per hour flying hour support on inventory pooling and maintenance services to the airline. This contract is the first OEM Component support programme for A380 aircraft in the industry. It covers all 88 part numbers of Smiths' products on Singapore Airlines fleet of 19 A380 aircraft on firm order, with an option for six more. The agreement covers each aircraft from entry into service for a 10-year period.
Smiths has the following systems on the A380:
-- Landing gear extension and retraction system
-- Air generation system actuators
-- Fabricated assemblies for the wing structure
-- Landing gear actuation
-- Wing flap & slat actuation
-- Video switching multiplexer
