Serbia Seeks Third Mobile Phone Operator
September 20, 2006
Serbia has announced a tender for issuing a license for a third mobile phone operator with an opening price of $410 million, local media said.
The Serbian agency for telecommunications said bidders must have more than 3 million cell phones subscribers and an annual profit of at least $640 million in 2005, Belgrade’s Beta news agency reported Wednesday.
Two operators already functioning in the country, Serbia’s state-run MTS Mobile Telecom and Norway’s Telenor, cannot participate in the tender.
Bids will be accepted by Nov. 3 and on Nov. 15, the agency will announce its decision.
The license will be granted for a 10-year period and will be automatically extended for another 10 years.
