Midwest Airlines Tops Conde Nast Traveler Business Travel Awards Poll

Posted on: Thursday, 21 September 2006, 15:00 CDT

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines has come out on top in the 9th annual Business Travel Awards poll conducted by Conde Nast Traveler magazine, placing first in the single-class domestic airline category. The airline's score of 51.8 topped JetBlue (49.7), Song (40.1), Frontier (29.9) and Horizon (28.9).

Midwest also earned the highest scores in three of the five categories making up the single-class airline category: Seat Comfort/Legroom, Food, and Cabin Service.

Announcing the award in the magazine's October issue, Conde Nast editors said, "As for single-class airlines, Midwest narrowly edges out JetBlue, knocking that carrier to No. 2 after two years in the top spot. While JetBlue has an impressive margin of victory in the Amenities/Technology category (overnight kits and seat-back television screens go a long way), Midwest does better on every other criterion."

"Midwest employees work very hard to provide our customers with 'The best care in the air' on every flight," said Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Airlines. "It's extremely rewarding that the traveling public recognizes and appreciates our efforts to provide an exceptional travel experience." He added that the airline was particularly pleased to rank first in Seat Comfort/Legroom, Food, and Cabin Service, because these are the areas the airline believes customers appreciate most.

The award is the 44th time Midwest Airlines has been named best airline since 1990. Travel+Leisure and the Zagat Airline Survey have also rated Midwest Airlines the best airline in the United States.

Survey Methodology: The independent firm of Millard Group, Inc. asked 50,000 readers of Conde Nast Traveler identified as business travelers to rate airlines, hotels, hotel chains and airports as excellent, very good, good, fair or poor on a variety of criteria. Final scores -- out of 100 -- represent the percentage of readers who rated an airline, hotel, hotel chain or airport as excellent or very good, and are based on a required minimum number of responses. Of the surveys e-mailed, more than 2,000 were completed, returned and tabulated.

Midwest Airlines features jet service throughout the United States. Skyway Airlines, Inc. -- its wholly owned subsidiary -- operates as Midwest Connect, which offers connections to Midwest Airlines as well as point-to-point service between select markets on regional jet and turboprop aircraft. Together, the airlines offer service to 47 cities. More information is available at http://midwestairlines.com/ .
