TSA Names Mark Hatfield Jr. Federal Security Director for Newark-Liberty International Airport

WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Mark Hatfield Jr. as Federal Security Director (FSD) for Newark-Liberty International Airport. Hatfield has served as acting FSD there since March 2006.

During his tenure as acting FSD, Hatfield has managed a security force of over 1,200 men and women at one of the busiest airports in the country. He also orchestrated the agency's increased security posture at the airport during the recent upgrade to homeland security threat level orange. Prior to assuming this acting role, Hatfield held the post of Deputy FSD at Newark- Liberty.

"Mark has done an outstanding job at Newark and has proven himself in a challenging operational environment," said Mike Restovich, TSA's Assistant Administrator, Office of Security Operations. "He brings a skill set to the FSD position that is distinct in TSA and one that makes him uniquely qualified to tackle the management, communications and leadership demands of this position."

Hatfield has been with the agency since 2002. He has served in the field and at headquarters in a variety of roles, including Assistant Administrator of Strategic Communications/ Public Affairs where he oversaw the agency's nationwide communications efforts.

Before joining TSA, Hatfield was a senior director at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey where he played a central role in multi-billion dollar airport expansions and led crisis responses to rail and aviation disasters, including TWA Flight 800. He has held leadership positions in several private industry ventures focused on technology and transportation and he served in the administrations of Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
