Northern Nevada Correctional Center to Break Ground on Renewable Energy Facility

WHAT: APS Energy Services and the Northern Nevada Correctional

Center will break ground on a Renewable Energy Center that

includes a wood-fired biomass boiler with a 1,000-kilowatt

steam turbine generator, and a 30-kilowatt photovoltaic

solar system. This combined heat and power plant will

utilize forest waste - wood chips - produced from

forest-thinning operations in the Sierra Nevada to produce

electricity, steam and hot water.

WHEN: 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26

WHERE: Northern Nevada Correctional Center, 1721 Snyder Ave.,

Carson City, Nev. (Administration Building). Officials from

the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, the state of Nevada

and APS Energy Services will be available for interview

opportunities.

WHY: This is believed to be the first renewable project of its

kind in Nevada. The demand for renewable energy projects

continues to rise as technologies improve and utility rates

continue to increase.
