Globecomm Systems Awarded $1.1 Million Contract From the National Reconnaissance Office for the Design of a New Transportable Multi-Band Earth Terminal; Options for Production Systems Bring Contract Value to $4 Million

Posted on: Thursday, 28 September 2006, 15:00 CDT

Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a global provider of end-to-end satellite-based communications solutions, today announced that the Company has been awarded a $1.1 million contract from the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) for the design and build of new transportable multi-band earth terminals. The contract, which includes a $3 million option for production units, was competitively awarded and represents the first time the Company has worked with this agency of the U.S. Government.

The NRO designs, builds and operates the nation's reconnaissance satellites. NRO products, provided to an expanding list of customers, including the Department of Defense and the intelligence community, can warn of potential trouble spots around the world, help plan military operations and monitor the environment.

The terminal operates in three satellite frequency bands (e.g. Tri-band) and provides NRO the flexibility to operate on commercial and government satellites. The system packaging method allows field deployment in one, two or all three-frequency bands.

Mike Plourde, Vice President Government Programs, said, "This award signifies the Company's continued success in targeting new government agencies that benefit from our Explorer product initiatives. The NRO had specific requirements and the Company's Explorer product development work, undertaken in the past year, positioned Globecomm for success in this competitive procurement."
