TROY, Mich., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that strengthen client innovation and decision-making, today announced that Changchun Railway Vehicle Company (CRC) of Changchun City, China, has selected Altair(R) HyperWorks(R) CAE technology to support the development of high-speed passenger rail transport systems. CRC chose Altair HyperMesh to reduce the time required for finite- element modeling, as well as to achieve higher quality modeling. CRC is now incorporating Altair's OptiStruct(R) into its product development cycle for structural optimization.
"We were primarily looking for excellent pre-processing, so HyperMesh was our prime reason for acquiring HyperWorks," says Dr. Xuedong Yan, chief information officer of Changchun Railway Vehicle. "We found the HyperMesh interface excellent. Using our previous pre-processor, we could build up a passenger railcar model in about six weeks. Using HyperMesh, we can now build a whole-car model in three weeks. Of all the CAE software that I've used or seen, HyperMesh delivers the finest model quality.
"Modeling carriage subsystems for a 200 km/h railway car requires modeling extremely complex structures to very tight tolerances," Yan continued. "HyperMesh enabled us to handle that complexity in a very effective way."
Altair HyperMesh is a user-friendly, high-performance finite-element pre- and post-processor for popular finite-element solvers. It allows engineers to analyze product design performance in a highly interactive and visual environment. OptiStruct is a powerful structural analysis and optimization tool.
"Changchun Railway Vehicle Company is taking its place among the world leaders in innovative rail transport technology," said Herbert (Guohuan) Qi, managing director of Altair China. "It's a pleasure to be working with CRC as they continue to expand the role that advanced CAE technology plays in the development of advanced, robust products. Their increasing use of the HyperWorks suite will help them to bring high-quality, leading-edge designs to market in a shorter product cycle."
