US Airways' Philadelphia Eagles Plane Takes Flight for Fans

TEMPE, Ariz., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- US Airways catches football fever with the release of the newly painted US Airways Philadelphia Eagles plane (registration N709UW). The Airbus A319 plane incorporates the logo and colors of the Eagles with the US Airways name and stylized version of the flag appearing on the fuselage.

The plane will be dedicated to US Airways employees, the city of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Eagles fans in a ceremony at Philadelphia International Airport today.

Here are some facts regarding the process of painting an airplane: * The US Airways Philadelphia Eagles livery was designed by US Airways creative services employee Paula Douglass. * Typically, 60 gallons of paint are required to paint an aircraft. * The entire process, on average, requires a plane to be out of service for eight to nine days. * It takes about 72 hours for the paint to dry. * Aircraft require repainting every six to seven years, depending on how the coat is maintained and polished.

Philadelphia is US Airways' second largest hub employing 5,700 aviation professionals and offering 440 daily flights to 113 non-stop destinations. Philadelphia also serves as US Airways' international gateway serving 16 destinations in Europe and 14 in the Caribbean and Latin America.
