October 13, 2006
Atlanta-based Delta airlines says it will start direct flights to Romania, connecting New York and Bucharest for the first time in seven years.
Frank Jahangir, Delta’s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told reporters the first flight from Bucharest to New York is scheduled for June 6, Romania’s English language Nine O’Clock online reported Friday.
A Boeing 767-300 ER, 214-seat aircraft is to fly four times a week and will cover the distance between New York and Bucharest in 10 1/2 hours.
Jahangir said trade relations were developing, a growing number of companies were coming to Romania, and the market likely will grow further after Romania joins the European Union next year.
