Roger A. Johnson Returns to Los Angeles World Airports As Deputy Executive Director for Environmental Services

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has appointed Roger A. Johnson Deputy Executive Director for Environmental Services, a post he held from July 2000 to May 2003 before returning to the private sector. He is responsible for all environmental planning, mitigation and compliance services at all four LAWA airports: Los Angeles International (LAX), Ontario International (ONT), Palmdale Regional (PMD), and Van Nuys (VNY).

Johnson has over 20 years experience in environmental management, environmental engineering, environmental regulatory compliance, hazardous materials/waste investigations, construction, and construction management. Prior to this appointment, Johnson was vice president at Camp, Dresser & McKee (CDM). During his 17 years at CDM, Johnson served over 150 airports dealing directly with environmental issues affecting airports. He previously served as project manager for the LAX Master Plan Environmental Impact Study/Environmental Impact Report and has comprehensive knowledge of state and federal environmental planning processes. He has developed stormwater and spill prevention plans for 40 airports, performed integrated noise modeling, conducted field audits, directed compliance programs, and worked extensively with various regulatory agencies.

Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, where he graduated magna cum laude. He is a member of the Environmental Steering Committee of Airports Council International, a leading airport industry association; the Environmental Affects of Aviation Subcommittee of the Transportation Research Board; and a member of the American Association of Airport Executives.
