Committed to engaging customers with a rich shopping experience that meets their needs, the new Borders airport stores will feature bestsellers and key titles for leisure and business travelers. Each store will offer over 7,000 book titles, including audio books, select gifts and stationery items, and top selling DVD and CD titles in an award-winning retail format.
"Borders has served the state of Michigan for over 30 years, beginning with our first store in Ann Arbor," said Tony Grant, senior manager of the airport program for Borders Group, Inc. "We are very excited to bring our airport format to the residents and visitors of this great state. Committed to connecting books and readers, we offer our customers the most relevant assortment. These new stores will provide travelers with a convenient place to discover a new author or pick up the latest bestseller," Grant continued.
These are the first Borders airport stores to open in Detroit. Borders also operates stores in airports located in Baltimore; Phoenix; Orlando; Seattle; Newark; Boston; Houston; Las Vegas; Miami; North Carolina; as well as in Washington, D.C.; and Cincinnati, Ohio. A new store in New York's LaGuardia Airport will open in early November.
"Airport Revenue News" (ARN), a leading publication for airport executives, concessionaires, and others involved in the aviation industry, awarded Borders the "Airport Revenue News Best Concessions" prize for the "Large Retailer Division" in 2006 and second place in the categories of "Best Airport Retailer" and "Retailer with the Highest Regard for Customer Service," in 2005. In 2004 the Borders airport store division was named "Best Retail Specialty Brand Operator," and in 2003, ARN recognized Borders as the "2003 Best New Specialty Retail Concept," almost immediately after the first Borders-branded airport store opened in 2002. The ARN awards are the most prestigious in the industry; approximately 3,000 airport executives, consultants and concessionaires nominate airport retailers for the awards as well as an independent panel of judges, and select the winners.
