TEMPE, Ariz., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — US Airways celebrates the legacy of America West Airlines as the airline dedicates its fourth “throwback” aircraft in the livery of America West Airlines today at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. An additional dedication event was held previously on Nov. 2 at Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.

Painted in America West’s original 1983 maroon, blue and taupe color scheme, the Airbus A319 displays the America West logo on the tail and the US Airways logo along the fuselage. Additionally, the aircraft registration or tail number will be N828AW, reflecting America West’s designator.

“The hometown airline spirit of service at America West will no doubt live on at the new US Airways. Many of our Las Vegas and Phoenix employees have built 20-plus year airline careers with America West. This aircraft is dedicated to them and celebrates a continuing tradition of excellence,” said Doug Parker, US Airways’ chairman and CEO.

Earlier this year, US Airways dedicated heritage PSA, Piedmont Airlines and Allegheny aircraft. Every aircraft in the US Airways fleet honors its ancestry by bearing the Heritage symbol, appearing near the aircraft door. The Heritage symbol incorporates the classic logos of the four largest airlines that have merged over the years to create the new US Airways: Allegheny, America West, PSA and Piedmont.

US Airways and America West’s recent merger creates the fifth largest domestic airline employing nearly 35,000 aviation professionals. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express operate approximately 3,800 flights per day and serve more than 230 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. US Airways is a member of Star Alliance, which provides connections for our customers to 842 destinations in 152 countries worldwide.
