WHO: Sean Seitzinger - Vice President, Retail Solutions and Strategic Consulting, Information Resources, Inc. Sally Lyons Wyatt - Senior Vice President, Client Solutions, Information Resources, Inc.
WHAT: During the past year, there have been highly successful new product introductions and double-digit growth in select snack food categories. However, as total demand for snack food is flat, the overall industry is experiencing slow dollar sales growth. To help manufacturers and suppliers understand these trends and what they mean for future growth potential, IRI experts will address this issue in two separate presentations. Consumer trends expert Sean Seitzinger will participate in the "Changing Consumers/Customers Panel" session during the 2006 Snack Food Association's Management Workshop on Nov. 8. Seitzinger will address how snack manufacturers and suppliers can market their products to baby boomers, one of the largest buying groups in America. He will closely analyze this important consumer segment and uncover new insights that will empower manufacturing and supply executives to understand, benchmark and predict baby boomer shopping trends.
In addition, IRI snack trends expert Sally Lyons Wyatt will present "State of the Pretzel and Baked Snacks Industry," during the Snack Food Industry's 2006 Pretzel & Baked Snacks Seminar on Nov 10. Lyons Wyatt will review industry performance at the category and channel level, underlying consumer and industry trends, and high potential product development, targeted marketing and merchandising opportunities. She will also highlight innovative new brands that are hitting the mark with consumers.
WHY: There are powerful trends influencing consumer purchase behavior and snack industry growth potential, such as population growth among consumers aged 55 plus as well as families with young children and consumers' evolution towards healthier eating and unwavering demand for convenience. Snack manufacturers and suppliers face the enormous challenge of deciphering these trends to determine the optimal mix of snack options in their portfolios and stores as well as the right advertising messages to influence purchases.
The presentations will address such critical questions as:
-- What are the purchase drivers and behaviors of each baby boomer segment?
-- How can snack manufacturers tailor their marketing approach to each boomer segment?
-- To what extent has healthier snacking impacted pretzel and baked snack growth potential?
-- What are the hottest growth categories today?
-- What product innovations have been most successful?
