Due to the very hot first weeks of the summer, sales of water, beer, and other beverages went considerably up. We recall that for example due to the long and hot summer in 2005 sales of bottled mineral water in Poland increased by 11% in that period. (60% of sales are implemented in the summer period). Analysts point out that sales of some beverages such as water, soft drinks, flavoured beers are seasonal and depend on the weather between May and September. At the same time, sales of some food products, such as ice cream, also increase.
According to the market research company AC Nielsen, Poles spend PLN 830mn annually on ice cream, which comprises 0.5% of the world consumption. An average Pole eats 3.5 litres of ice cream a year, compared with 24 litres consumed by Americans. Large producers, such as Algida, Koral or Nestle hold 70% of the Polish market.
